At risk of dating myself one of the greatest films I ever saw was Hoosiers. For those of you unaware of the story it recaptures the journey of a small Indiana High School Basketball Team and how a Coach took them from mediocrity to the state championship with a under sized and talent deficient group of boys.
There are many business lessons to be taken from this film and the sequences played out. Take a look at this one:
All too often owners and employees focus on the end game and fail to take note of the importance of Fundamentals. Leaders must reward the fundamentals, re enforce the behaviors and activities that drive the ‘win’. Call it what you will but BLOCKING & TACKLING or FUNDAMENTALS & DEFENSE are what makes a winner.
These things are not sexy, they aren’t fun but they win our in the long run time and time again.
