Why Is Your Brand So Damn Important

June 25, 2023 by Michael Shea PA

Branding is often times so missed by small business owners. When I meet a business owner, prior to I have reviewed the business. Now its so very easy with social media that consumers have told a story in reviews, pictures etc. Business owners often gripe about it being unfair but what they don’t realize is its their job to build the brand and tell the story first. The story they want told so the haters and malcontents can be seen for what they are.   Why is your Brand so Damn Important…well here are just a few of the reasons why:

  • Differentiation: In a crowded marketplace with numerous competitors, a strong brand helps a business stand out from the competition. Branding allows businesses to showcase their unique identity, values, and offerings, helping consumers differentiate them from other similar options. A well-defined brand can create a distinct and memorable impression in the minds of consumers. The trick is in each and every experience to relay and impress the identity, values, and offerings on the consumer so when in the crowded marketplace they know the brand and get a feeling…hopefully the right feeling.
  • Trust and Credibility: A well-established and reputable brand instills trust and credibility in the minds of consumers. A strong brand communicates reliability, quality, and consistency, which are essential factors for building long-term relationships with customers. A trusted brand can help attract new customers and retain existing ones, even in the face of competition.  Each experience is

  • Emotional Connection: Brands have the power to create emotional connections with consumers. A well-crafted brand can evoke positive emotions, resonate with customers’ values, and build a sense of loyalty and attachment. Emotionally connected customers are more likely to choose a brand over alternatives and become brand advocates, promoting the business through word-of-mouth and positive reviews. In the first video in this blog you see the emotion of the Don Draper to his Hershey Bars as a kid.  Now wrapped in the drama of the show is sort of went a little far but the connection of a consumer to a childhood experience, or the soldier who had that in his rations…well that opportunity carried that brand into the 21st century. Dont mess with it…old tried and trusted is important.  Just look at what happened to Bud Light recently.
  • Customer Recognition and Recall: A strong brand with consistent visual elements, such as logos, colors, and taglines, enhances customer recognition and recall. When consumers encounter a brand repeatedly and have positive experiences associated with it, they are more likely to remember and choose that brand when making purchasing decisions. Brand recognition can also extend to product or service expansions, allowing businesses to leverage their existing brand equity.  Some of us are old enough to remember “New Coke”  and what a mistake that was for one of the most Iconic brands in history. Bud Light just made the same mistake…its important to recognize how the marketing leader who made the blunder was probably not even alive when the New Coke error occurred.

  • Price Premium and Customer Loyalty: A well-established brand often commands a price premium compared to generic or lesser-known alternatives. Customers are often willing to pay more for products or services associated with a trusted and recognizable brand. Additionally, a strong brand fosters customer loyalty, leading to repeat business and reduced price sensitivity.

  • Competitive Advantage: Building a strong brand can provide a sustainable competitive advantage. A strong brand presence makes it more challenging for competitors to replicate or surpass the emotional connections, trust, and loyalty that a brand has established with its customer base. This advantage can help a business maintain its market position and fend off new entrants.
  • Expansion and Diversification: A robust brand allows for easier expansion into new markets, product lines, or services. A well-known and trusted brand can facilitate the introduction of new offerings, as consumers are more likely to try new products or services from a brand they already know and trust.

Overall, a strong brand can positively influence consumers’ perceptions, choices, and loyalty. It contributes to a business’s long-term success by differentiating it from competitors, building trust, and fostering emotional connections with customers.
