So this last weekend I took a trip up to Rhode Island and Mass to see some Hockey (GO FRIARS!!) The nostalgia of returning to ones alma mater and the place of ones youth is always fun. That being said my mind never turns off as my my wife and I and our children went to the local shops and restaurants in and about New England.
Invariably my business mind raced as time and time again I encountered places that only took cash. You can spot it a mile away….the breakfast place where the locals go with the line out the door. Cash only is common in the small business world and frankly more common in states with egregious tax structures (New England take note) …part of me winced when i heard the owners say cash only as I knew selling such a place would be an endeavor but another part of me felt for them as well as they in most regards are forced into this scenario by governments that overtax them to a point of insanity.
In all other endeavors we feel for the individual because they are a victim of their circumstances….however, the small business owner…..he is a cheat and villain. #keepgoodbooksandrecords
